Burn-out

Burn-out is a term coined recently to describe psychological suffering usually related to a situation of overwork. However, this concept has not yet been medically validated. Thus, the Académie Française de Médecine mentions it as "pathological state within the syndrome of chronic stress maladjustment". The term "burn-out" is therefore not a medical diagnosis. Overworking leads to physical and mental exhaustion that often follows a long period of stress that the person fails to recognise and eventually impacts on the psychological balance of the person concerned. Burn-out should not be confused with depression.
