The team led by Dr. Laurent Groc, member of the Fondation FondaMental in France, has identified autoimmune inflammatory mechanisms in 20% of patients with schizophrenia. In December 2017, his work was published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.

In addition to remarkable therapeutic implications, it is hoped that studies on the links between the immune system and psychiatric disorders will also help to destigmatise mental illnesses: they are destined to become like “other” illnesses. Immuno-psychiatry is one of the six axes of the scientific programme of  Fondation FondaMental Suisse.
